A MUST visit! We just finished a week long vacation and we went to Fish Heads at least once a day (some multiple times lol). The staff & service is absolutely awesome (especially Austin and Nina), atmosphere is perfect, music on point, and food is delicious. They do seat yourself and there is a variety of size tables with umbrellas & shade or sun if you want it. Bar seats near the fans were perfect to cool off! If you give them a koozie to hang up they will in turn give you one of theirs.
Food Highlights- Shrimp tacos, tuna bites, peel and eat shrimp, potato Salad, and fries. Between 4-6pm they have 15 cent shrimp with a 20 shrimp minimum.
Music- Live music nightly during the season. Usually one band at 4pm and one at 8pm. Their schedule is posted on the surf board coming into the restaurant and on their website. Wednesday night was our favorite band of the week!
Fishing pier store- In the store you can purchase a variety of items such as beer, Fish Heads gear, take-out food, and all sorts of things you would need to fish.
Parking- Very minimal so walk or Uber if possible.
Cannot wait to visit again -

Went twice during our trip it was that good. The first visit we just sat at the bar and had a few drinks. The bartender, Nina, was very attentive and sweet. We even met a few locals at the bar who offered to buy a shot for my girlfriend for her birthday ( does not serve liquor).
The second night we got a table fairly quickly around 6 PM. The waitress was awesome ( I think her name was Alexis). It got very busy fast but we did not mind. The tables did not feel right on top of each other. The band was awesome, played classic rock but with a beachy twist.
I got a grilled fish sandwich and my girlfriend got the shrimp tacos. We also split an order of tuna bites as an appetizer. I recommend them highly they were delicious. We will definitely be returning in the future 100%. -

Bottom: Super casual outdoor bar and restaurant with excellent views but subpar parking.
Fish Heads Bar and Grill is located at the rustic Outer Banks Fishing Pier around the 18.5 MP in Nags Head. Perched on top of the pier, Fish Heads has excellent views of the Atlantic Ocean and Nags Head beaches.
All of the seating at Fish Heads is outdoors although a lot of it is under a shady pavilion. There is seating at the bar as well as at tables.
Speaking of the bar, Fish Heads has a full bar. For non-alcoholic drinks they have Pepsi fountain sodas and iced tea. Their menu consists of casual fare like fish tacos, fried shrimp baskets and burgers. The menu is perfect for outdoor, seaside dining and I suspect this is a fun spot for late night libations.
Fish Heads has live music at night but I was there for lunch when it was a very family friendly atmosphere. Although located outside, Fish Heads is not pet friendly so leave your parrot, family dog, etc. at home.
Parking at the Outer Banks Fishing Pier is limited. I would estimate there are only about 30 spots and many cars were double parked when I was there. If you have 4WD, parking on the side of the road might work well. If you're close enough, the Nags Head multi-use path (walking/biking path) will lead you to Fish Heads. -

Fish Heads is one of the first stops once my friends and family arrive in Nags Head. The service is seat yourself- first come first serve but you are quickly greeted by a friendly server. This year, Tyler was our server both times we came and he was great and very patient with our group. You come here for the view, but you end up staying for the food and drinks. They don't serve liquor, but they have a wide variety of craft beers and sake cocktails. The Larry's lemonade is my personal favorite and my
go-to! The crab cake sandwich is incredible, and you can't beat 15 cent shrimp (20 shrimp increments) also make sure you don't over look the cheese fries! Other really good food options are the corn dogs and southwest egg rolls. Overall, if you are in south nags head this place is a MUST visit. Can't wait to come back next year :) -

Every summer I count down the days until I get to come back to fish heads. I love this super laid back pier bar that serves wine and beer, has 15 cent shrimp for daily happy hour, and live music. The service is always spectacular - especially Tyler who served us a few times this past vacation. The beer selection is broad and has something for every beer lover. Besides the 15 cent shrimp, my other favorite food items are the southwest egg rolls and crabcake sandwich...which is homemade and very fresh. Honestly fish heads is good vibes all around and can't wait to visit again next summer!
